1
WHAT IS HAIR LOSS?
Hair loss can be very subtle at the beginning. It typically presents as a decrease in hair growth that cannot keep up with routine hair loss. There is a decrease in hair follicle size that manifests as thinning of the hair. As the condition progresses to its end stage, a person is left partially or fully bald.

WHAT CAUSES HAIR LOSS?
Unfortunately, hair loss is an all too common occurrence and can be due to several factors. The most common cause (about 98%) of hair loss in men is due to genetic male pattern baldness that is related to production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). At a certain stage in life that may occur early for some, genes trigger metabolic and hormonal changes that increase the effect of DHT on hair follicles causing hair loss. The other 2 percent come from factors such as: physical/emotional stress, mechanical hair stress, medical conditions, medications, and nutritional deficiencies.
3
WHAT CAN I DO TO PREVENT HAIR LOSS?
Avoiding stress and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is sufficient for some people to avoid or minimize hair loss. For others, a proper medical evaluation is needed to determine the cause of hair loss and requires active treatment.
